What Would the U.S. Games Industry Decline Look Like Interpreted As a Video?

If you havent heard, noticed, or felt it as a gaming enthusiast, the United States video game industry is on quite the decline. Perhaps not one that is as alarming as the video below is about to make it seem, but noticeable none the less. We hit our peak back in 2008 when the industry became worth $21.33 billion and have now seem to have fallen right back to 2006 numbers in that were now only woth $12.97 billion. Whats concerning is that the decline shows little signs of leveling, putting us in risk of falling back to 6th generation levels of revenue. To be fair, two new consoles recently launched…

Square Enix Forgets That PS Vita Exists

Square Enix recently began asking Kingdom Hearts fans to fill out this survey about the series (and potential Kingdom Hearts III marketing mostly). It asks the usual questions youd expect from a marketing survey some demographic qualifiers, what websites you read, how likely you are to buy certain games, and so on but one particular page stood out when I took this survey. On the list of which consoles you own, the PlayStation Vita is not an option. -PSLS

SXSW 2014: New Details for Tales from the Borderlands

Gamnesia: "The story of how this game ever even happened revolves around alcohol. The guys from both studios got together and just started talking about a collaboration. Telltale felt that Borderlands had a rich world with a really great narrative, and they felt it would be a good fit to make a game about Borderlands with the style of Telltale Games. Many fans these days fail to recall Telltale's history of funny games Sam and Max, for example, or Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People so Borderlands' tendency for humor fits well with them, and they're a bit relieved to be moving away from…

SXSW 2014: Panel with the CEO of EA, Andrew Wilson

Gamnesia: "The interviewer continued by asking about EA's misses and mistakes, specifically citing NBA Live, and how the company has learned from those errors. As Wilson put it, constructive feedback occurs when you don't fulfill certain motivations. That was a nice way to address critics or people upset in comments sections. Making games is hard, and when things are judged subjectively, it makes it even harder. You can be conservative and not push the boundaries, but Wilson would rather be in a company that doesnt conform to that mentality. Because of that, there are going to be some missteps.…

TeamVVV.com Weekly Racing Video Game News Episode 16: Recycled Relics

VVV: "Yes, it's that time of the month again: this week's most notable racing game news story was the release of yet another 10 car DLC pack for Forza Motorsport 5. Too bad the majority of it was recycled relics from Forza 4, much to the dismay of the internet. Compare this to the release of the coveted Koenigsegg One:1, the speedy Sweedish supercar unveiled at this week's Geneva motorshow that's already being touted as the fastest road car in the world , for Need for Speed: Rivals free of charge. It's a welcome gesutre, given the extortinate cost of the previous DLC packs.

The culture of Just Dance 2014

AWESOMEoutof10's Jose Cardoso takes a look at Ubisoft's Just Dance phenomenon, and the role that the fans have had in crafting its latest release. "Just Dance 2014 represents the series strongest intersection of culture and game lifestyle, a meeting of external and internal supports for one fully-concentrated embrace of community. With this energizing its built-in systems, 2014 has a whole new dimension of pull that attaches a high level of motivation to play. Reliance, then, is not on past techniques, but in composing its own entity, and it is for these reasons that its new measures of equalizing…

Strider Review [The Reticule]

Chris Evans writes "As I hadnt played the 1989 retro version of Strider, I wasnt aware of the dangers of diving in at the Normal difficultly level. It was a devastating mistake to try and play without prior experience at that level, while I slashed my way through the first few areas of normal bad guys, as soon as I came upon the first boss, I was toast. There was no way I was getting past this guy without knowing more of the ins and outs of the game. I didnt give up though, not one bit. I returned to the main menu, selected New Game and started once more on Easy. Without that easier difficulty…

Could Microsofts Xbox One Beat the PS4 in Japan?

Sony's (NYSE: SNE  )  PlayStation 4 recently pulled into the lead in the eighth generation console race, beating out Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT  ) Xbox One and Nintendo's (NASDAQOTH: NTDOY  )  Wii U with 6 million PS4 units sold. A main contributor to that victory was the PS4's robust launch in Japan, a home-turf stronghold for Sony and Nintendo and one of Microsoft's weakest markets.
